Yes, it is chromed and it was left to my father from a friend of his that might have served in Italy in WWII.

You might do some research on chromed rifle actions before you shoot it.. Some of the processes make the steel brittle when chromed. The Carcano is a lower pressure round compared to a lot of the milsurp stuff, but still.. Caution. The last carcano I had I rebarreled to 357 mag and made a single shot out of it.. Lots of fun and very little bolt face work.
