The stained concrete is an interesting idea but will the surface cracks, which are common to concrete, eventually show through?  Tile sounds like a good option.My wife and I are the only ones in our household and walk around bare-footed most of the time.  She doesn't like our current carpet because of the vacuum marks, foot prints, champagne color etc.  We were told that carpet with a pattern or berber was hard to make the seam look right.She is pretty set on carpet in a frieze or berber style but we still have some shopping to do.</blockquote>
