I plan on attending a politically rally this weekend where a Congressman will be speaking. I know the OK SDA says you can't carry in a building where a government official is conducting business but does campaigning count? What if it is outside in a city parking lot. Also, did they remove the section that said you can't carry at council and school board meetings? I couldn't find it in the download of the law I was looking at.

I would think that a political rally is conducted by the sponsoring party, and thus is not an official government meeting. Now having said that, I would hope you think twice, if for no other reason than the Gabby Gifford incident a few yrs ago in a AZ grocery store parking lot.

Life is full of choices, and some are better than others.

Yes, they removed the council/school board meeting stuff.

There is nothing in the law that precludes you from carrying at a rally, *especially* if it is outside (unless it is on school property).

And things like the Gabby Gifford incident would make me *more* likely to carry rather than less.

Agree with Jack T., the Gifford incident is one of the many reasons TO carry at a public event where lawful.

What if it is held inside a fairgrounds building owned by the county? Is that considered a government building that is off limits?

If it's going to be at one of the presidential candidates rallies, I would say no. Remember that the SS will be there screening people. Not long ago a uniformed officer was escorted out of the building for refusing to give up his gun. I think there is a thread on here about that incident.

That was in a building, right?

I'm not sure I would consider a rally in a public place out in the open as a reason to disarm the public. I can certainly see them (the Secret Service) doing so, but I don't think it's right. The law says we have a right to carry in a public place. Of course, I'm sure there are special Secret Service rules that override that, somehow, not that I have any knowledge of those.

What if I'm going about my business, carrying concealed as usual, and happen to walk into a rally for a political candidate that I did not know was scheduled? Am I not allowed to pass through the crowd in the parking lot on my way into the mall or whatever other place I'm going because of my firearm which is being legally carried?

Stupid laws, stupid rules, stupid people effing things up for everyone. I have less and less patience for stupid, inconsiderate and needlessly violent people as the years go by. They are the ones to blame for politicians overreaching and attempting to restrict freedoms. Feckin' idiots.
