hello all, been awhile since i have been on. training and work seem to be consuming us nowadays. just wanted to mention the folks sitting in afghanistan and the almost forgotten war Iraq this holiday season. as we are back here enjoying the season they are away from family and friends and in harms way. just take a minute over the holidays and spare them a thought.
there are many websites out there where you can "adopt" a soldier and send them something for the holidays. doesnt have to be much, believe it or not sometimes a simple letter or card can lift your spirits on dark days. thats not to say some beef jerky wouldnt lift the spirits a wee bit more:)
merry christmas all!

Amen! When I was over during Christmas, I received a letter on Christmas day. The letter was from a complete stranger. The lady thanked us for what we were doing, but the part that got me the most was how "unsypmathetic" (for lack of better term) it was. She basically talked about her life, what her dreams were, etc., and I got so into the letter and what was going on with her life, that for a short period of time I forgot where I was. It was like being at home and talking to someone at a bar. For that I was, and still am, thankfull! Basically, what I'm trying to say is don't worry about what to say to them, just talk. It will be appreciated more than you can imagine! Merry Christmas to everyone!

This is a very interesting perspective. I, for one, would never think about writing about things that are going on in my life for fear it would create homesickness (not that my life is all that).

Thanks for sharing. this really helps.

Yeah, I had an older lady whom I still keep in touch with write me and my roomie. The letters were random and about life back home for her. Took you away from where you were. Strange thing about being away around the holidays, the more they tried to make it festive the more the place sucked. Definitely could have done without the decorations in the chow hall and all that.
