Hmmmm ... I was thinking any gun store/range with a cafe/restaurant in it would be a good place to go. Think about it ... you have a food -- at least one gun store I know also sells FD/DH food buckets ... and the equipment to protect it with ... :naughty:

Subprep isnt kidding about real estate offices. Several good suggestions already. I would add schools to the list since it hasnt been suggested already. Might not be the best food, but it would work in a pinch.

Schools were going to be my suggestion. Pretty much anywhere with a cafeteria.

Having a good book on foraging would be a good idea. Spending some time (and maybe ink/toner) here before it hits the fan wouldn't hurt. Also knowing how (and where) to set snares and other types of traps would be good. All the racoons and possums I discard now would become fair game to be eaten, too.

A .22, pellet gun, slingshot, crossbow, or bow and arrow and some time walking around where there are squirrels and rabbits isn't out of the question, either. Stocking up on pellets, arrows and slingshot projectiles now is as important as stocking up on .22, 12 gauge, 5.56x45, 9mm and .45 ACP.

Depending on how/why it has hit the fan, a trip to the police station, fire house, or military base might be safe(ish), too. And don't forget hospitals. Multitask with your scavenging. Hit the cafeteria/vending machines for food and the pharmacy for medications. Maybe grab some extra blankets and other bedding while you're at it.

If the crap hits the fan the reason we have a food supply is just to bridge the gap between the end of the normal supply chain and the start of a new one. Even if that just means our own gardens and what we can hunt/fish for and gather. My "bug out" or long term location is surrounded by woods, backs up to a river, cows etc around. One road in, lots of places people already garden. Get the picture?

No, sorry didn't get the pic. Can you repost and maybe add a map?

Actually sounds like my place.

Hehe. Seriously though, it's land that some friends of mine live on. My goal is to be the guy that they are actually happy to have show up. They aren't "preppers" but like most country folk they know how to make do and have full pantrys and huge gardens. IF it ever gets bad enough for me to "bug out" I plan to show up but not in a "take care of me" sort of way. More like trade yall some security and a bunch of extra food for shelter. They are practically family and would do so even if I didn't have anything to offer, but I plan on having plenty to offer.

The wife's sister (her hub and grown kids) are about as citified as they come. She thinks is roughing it is Holiday Inn Express. The only thing he ever shot was a golf, totally inedible. Love them to death, but we are so different.
She always tells her kids,"if anything bad happens, get to Uncle's farm."
I say, "come on up, but we work for our food."
