Go find you a 5mm mag barrel. Ammo is available again and reasonably priced, made by Aguila. Dad liked his Herrett's, I shot a .222 and a .41 mag mostly.

You will get to really liking that Contender. My daughter uses ours set up as a youth length carbine in 7-30 Waters to deer hunt with. Flatter and softer shooting than the .30-30 barrel but just as deadly.

Right now it has handgun grips and an old 10" .22lr octagon barrel on it for driving tacks.
There are lots of barrel, grip, forearm, stock options out there. Barrels are little high on ebay but you can find good deals on grips, stocks and forearms. Barrels and forearms listed as being second generation (or G2) will fit first gen frames and vice-versa but NOT grips/stocks....they changed the angle of the attachment stud when they came out with G2 frames. None of the Encore stuff will fit.
