I've never been a hunter but would like to try coyote hunting. I have a AR with a heavy 16" barrel that I figured would fit the bill if I had the opportunity to hunt predators. If anyone cares to take a rookie with them on a hunt, I'd enjoy the chance.

Definitely good wisdom Scott. I have been out in some big western pastures where we walked for hours calling different stands before we ever got back to the truck. Those heavy varmint rifles get awful heavy by the time the truck comes into view.

Thats why I bought the Remington R-15 in .223 last month. Its really light. Still haven't shot it as I'm waiting for the new Nikon Coyote scopes to come out that have matching camo. Even the rings are matching:D If anybody see's them come out, let me know. Bass pro, and all the stores in OKC said maybe late June.
Its killing me though for it to sit in the safe though.
I just keep buying ammo though.

Most of my Song Dogs have fallen from a 22lr at distances within 30 yards. But now I carry a 12 gauge Mod choke 3inch BB Steel. The end result has been no pelt damage and a dead dog. For the open stuff I use a 223 either bolt or AR. My experience has been bullet quality greatly determines whether you have to track the dog or he goes straight down.
