once you get one you might decide that you do need it...they are handy...l like the style with the spike on the back...really handy for digging - fire pit etc....a hammer head would be useful at times but l find the digging feature to be the most useful ...mine is a SOG...have heard some negatives about them but it serves me well.....

I have several different type's of hawks, and keep one in each vehicle, each of those have the spike end. I also keep one in my BOB but that one has the hammer on the back.

I like Hawk's. Here is mine, I got from a fellow member here. Handy, handy! I added some paracord wrap to build up the handle, and then overlayed it with a Tennis Racket Wrap. I have large hands. I also installed a hand lanyard. H&B Forge They hand forge all they sale. Oh and I really like the spike end. I can still hammer pretty good with the main body as well.
