I have a RAVIN R9. It is a few years old and is a top-tier crossbow (pricey). A friend of mine bought it and then sold it to me when he moved out of the country.
It shoots a bolt at 400 FPS and is as accurate as a rifle. It's not in your price range but you might get lucky on one like I did.

In that price range Wicked Ridge by a MILE!! Its the only one made in the USA for that price. Comes out of the same Ohio factory those high dollar Ten Points do. They have some of the best customer service in the industry and its a family owned business that honestly tries to source as many of their parts as they can right here in the USA.

I've owned a few Wicked Ridges and a few Ten Points, never been disappointed with any of them. Yes, I've had to send two back for repairs over the years and their customer service lived up to their name. Can't imagine I would ever buy anything else.

Im honestly fairly torn between those. As much as im hearing good things on wicked ridge, im seeing a lot (and I mean dozens upon dozens) of reviews of the limbs failing/cracking/splintering and the main string bursting after a low amount of shots. The ones who had the issue said that tenpoint has largely been no help to them and that they have been having to foot the bill for shops to repair/replace the parts. Not exactly a good sign. It would be one thing if it was just one or two people, but every website I look up the wicked ridge of this model/price point I see the same complaints. Just rather concerning since im not seeing anything like that on the bear.

It was told to me by a rep from Excalibur when I confronted him with their seemingly rash of limb failures that only the “complainers” post reviews. I called BS and didn’t really buy his line of bull, but stepping back and looking at the internet as a whole, he may be right. People love “drama” and posting about it. It’s rare you see someone talk about how great their car is, but by golly, if the SOB breaks down, folks will write a book about it.
Maybe it’s the same with crossbows, maybe it’s not. I really don’t know, but if you trust a review from a random person online more than a known member of this board like Elkstalker, then you probably just need to buy the Bear.:anyone:

Im not discounting his opinion on it, just explaining that many people across multiple forums and reviews pages had reported the same string/limb failures and that tenpoint kind of just shrugged them off when they tried to get help. Was simply expressing what I’d found on it and my reason for concern, not in any way discounting his input

I really don’t have a dog in this hunt, but it sounds to me like your mind is made up about Wicked Ridge. Instead of continuing to kick the can down the road, just go buy the Bear and get started practicing for October 1st.:urwelcome:
