Four of us pay $4 an acre for 1,000 acres in NW Oklahoma. The rule set by the landowner is no baby bucks, none of us shoot young deer or does anyway so it does not matter. The land owner also does not want any camping or anything like that on the ranch, which we do not want to do anyway, that just destroys the area where you camp from your hunt. In 5 years I have not tagged out black powder twice but killed 2 good bucks each other year so I have killed 8 good bucks for $1,000 per year. All of the bucks I have killed there were in the 155 to 182 pound range field dressed. All of them were 9 or 10 points with racks that were 18-21 inches wide. B and C wise they were in the 130-150- range, one maybe 155. The land is part of a big ranch and they have cattle on it until about October 1st of each year, so it is grazed down where you can see the deer. $4 is pretty common in NW Oklahoma. We hear about the ranchers that charge the $5-$8 per acre but what happens is the hunters drop out after a year or two and the the ranchers end up with no one to lease the land. That is why we got the $4 land, prior guys dumped the lease, and the rancher wanted a long term group of responsible guys. They know we are not going to trash the place or shoot cattle or anything stupid or leave gates open. So, they charge $4 and have long term leases. This picture is just a typical buck that I killed, I have killed 3 much bigger than him, just have that picture handy. Anyway that gives you an idea of what land is leased for in the northwestern counties. The land out there must have river access to have many big deer and the closer it is to the Kansas line the better the deer. FWIW
