The gal who worked for him told me to go cash my check AT THE BANK it was drawn on, not to deposit it. Sure enough ... Everyone's paychecks bounced. That same night he closed up after business for the day was concluded, locked the doors and ... Will you look at that?? Guess who didn't show up for opening the next day ... Everyone how deposited their checks got stiffed. Everybody who cashed theirs dodged a bullet. Didn't happen again for nearly 20 years but it did. Receptionist who also did the payroll checks for the firm gave us our checks before lunch and said "Go to the bank. Straight to the bank. Do NOT deposit this thing in your bank account ... Don't ask me, I'm not telling you." I said "I've been here before. Thanks for the head's up." The bank wanted to give me a hard time -- not sure what that was about -- but since there were available funds they didn't have a choice. Damn that lawyer was pissed. LolI've also argued with a credit union about cashing checks drawn on their institution. It's pretty bad when you have to explain to a teller and a district manager that checks are DEMAND NOTES ...
