So I’ve got a vortex strike eagle with a reticle that is sighted in for 55gr .223. If I put this scope on a 30-30 how would I come up with where the bullet will be at the reticles? Basically, how do the trajectories compare? I only use hornady lever revolution ammo in the 3030. I think it drops 12” at 300.

Would I just need to shoot, record, move, repeat? I could go they some serious ammo that way.

Just curious if it could be done with any efficiency. Appreciate any help!!!

Use large targets (poster board, etc.) so you'll be sure to hit them, and mark them in increments so you can tell the drop from a distance.

Aim at the bullseye with the top reticle, shoot groups of 3-5 rounds, then note which reticle lines up with the group impact (when the top reticle is on the bullseye). Shouldn't take but a few shots per location to get a general idea.

Just my two cents. :drunk2:

Best way is to chronograph the round you will be using in the 30-30 then run a trajectory chart at http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmtraj-5.1.cgi and compare the drops with your ballistic reticle. You can play around with initial sight in distance until the drops correspond with the lines on the reticle.

Difficult to explain, easy to do when you understand the process.

You might consider an app to make some calculations. I’ve had pretty good luck with StrelokPro.
These captures at with Hornady 160gr LEVERolution, Strike Eagle 1-6 BDC mounted at 1.97” with a 1:10 twist barrel just to start. At 3.5x and 6x

What he said. I use the same app and it works great.

For those that do not own a cell phone we will need to just shoot at tall cardboard and record where impact is and write it down on paper and tape it to the gun stock :)
I think this is the old fashioned way.

I could be wrong though as I shot recurve bows for years and no sights on them..You just got used to shooting and judging distance.
Rifle distance is much harder to judge.
Good morning all..I could not sleep with all this rain.
