There is some very good thoughts being posted here. I suggest that any food you stock be food you will eat. MREs and all are great but not something you want to eat at most mealtimes, and if you do not eat them chances are they will just sit where ever you stack them and go bad. You can keep some long term storage food, but the main things I suggest are like the chunky soups, canned chicken, rice, beans, etc. Many have at least a 2 year shelf life and you can make some tasty meals from them. While I love to mix a can of Ranch Style beans with some white rice, the wife is not that crazy about it. A can of chicken mixed into a packet of Knorr Chicken flavored rice and a can of green beans makes a good meal and is easy on the stomach if you are a little under the weather. It is cheap too. These are the kinds of things you can look for on sale and buy a couple extra without breaking the bank. As far as firearms, I would add the shotgun next followed by a good 22 rifle. The shotgun will let you defend your home or can be used to hunt any game you likely to run into. And yes guys this topic will never go away. As long as there are people that worry about their family it will keep coming up. Which is why it should have it's own section. :D
