It is required to notify within 30 days. Getting a new card is optional.

So notifying them of my address change is all that's needed? I don't need the $15 for a replacement card with the updated address, correct?

Unless you want to have to tell the officer who asks, "is this the correct address?"
As long as your DL is current addy, you have 10 days to notify DPS of a move, your good to go
