BPS has fallen in line with most every corporation - they now have top-level execs implementing “numbers-driven” strategies that maximize profits and ROI to shareholders. The emphasis is not on “how do we serve the customer”, but rather “how do we increase profits”, often by selling cheap chunk or, in the case of BPS/Cabelas, house-brand candy and toys. I see it everywhere in every facet of business- service companies, retail, construction, etc. I wondered several times on different trips through a BPS with $100+ of gift cards in my pocket, and left each time thinking what a waste of time…… I finally gathered up some old reels, went and bought braided line, had their guy restring a few reels, mainly to reduce the thickness of my wallet. It’s profits over people, and the execs calling the shots are often clueless about operations or the activity their products are supposed to support.
