Had a friend years ago was collecting Nazi PPKs. Was looking at a over priced one at a gun show. Said why is this one worth so much more than others ? Did it kill a Jew? He was being a smart ass then he saw a star of David on the seller . He
just turned & walked away.

I associate the newer ppks with James Bond and old ones with Natzis.

So do I, newer ones being those produced post-WWII in either Ulm, (West Germany)or by Manurhin (In France) and the older ones being those made in Zella Mehlis (pre-WWII Walther Factory). I suppose we could lump the brief periods that S&W had license to produce the pistols and subsequently, Interarms in the new category. I have only 1 Interarms gun; a beautiful Stainless Steel PPK/S chambered in .32ACP, the rest are all stamped made in W. Germany or Made in France.
