Very nice groups from a .308.
Ok not a group.
I was sighting in a scope and first shot was left of center and then I adjusted scope and hit center .
I backed up to 100 yards shot another Federal 150 gr Non Typical whitetail round.
It hit right on the vertical line then I moved back to 180 yards and hit the line again but 6.75" lower.

I was impressed.
I took one of the rounds apart a couple days later.
First thing i did was put one of the factory loaded rounds in my press and seated the bullet deeper.

To my surprise there was NO POP. it just slicked in very smoothly with not much resistance.

OK Federal No crimp.
I measured the neck mouth before and it was the same size OD as the rest of the neck.

I got the bullet out with an inertia hammer and it was quite easy.
I weighed the powder 45.0gr.
It is a small ball powder looks like a darker NO sheen BL-C(2).

Neck ID after removing bullet is .307"

The bullet does not show any deep gouges in the bearing surface.
The bullet has a cannelure and that was above the case mouth on all rounds in the box.
Well the base of the cannelure in just at the case mouth.

Looks like a Speer grand slam flat base with a slight chamfer on the base of the bullet like many flat base bullets have.
Only .275" of the bearing surface was in the neck.

The powder was almost to the top of the shoulder.
Pretty good case fill.

We know the factory does not chamfer the case mouth.
Do they flare it slightly then iron out the flare?
Or do they let the chamfer on the base of the bullet do the deed?
