With me getting more into rimfires, I am absolutely dying to get into more opportunities to shoot prairie dogs. Problem is, I don’t have anywhere to go after them anymore. Any public land known to be populated with prairie dogs?

I haven’t found any yet, but being able to set up for a day shooting those little fellas would really tickle my pickle.

Nw and Sw OK, private is all I know of. It's worth the drive to north central SD though.

Ever been to Hutchinson Kansas? They actually have a prairie dog town next to all the shopping centers on the east side of the city. Those dang things are everywhere up there.

You used to be able to go to the Elgin exit and go West and they were covered up with them.

Might go on ODWC and find the game warden for an area you want to hunt. He might recommend landowners that's let you eliminate a few. Other sources are feed stores out west, the guys running those know the landowners in the area typically. Get to Googling.

Yeah I remember feeding them as a kid. Most of my moms family used to live there, used to go all the time.

    Rosebud?

Ive always had terrible luck getting a hold of game wardens. Even found an old camp with the remains of 3 poached deer last summer, called the warden, no response.
I’ll definitely start poking around though. I guess prairie dogs aren’t in the same class of convincing people to shoot on their land like hunting for hogs, so it may be easier.
