Took some time and lots of work, but I loved every bit. Antique bankers chair that was needing to be saved. Had to use 5 different grits of sand paper to get the thick varnish and stain. They knew how to do this back in the day. Needed some work on the spring and rollers as well as removing any rust, etc. Wood was oak and had beautiful grain. Wood was heavy and the metal parts were steel. Took a few hour a day with a sander and most by hand sanding down to where I needed it. The metal work was minor and a quick fix. Cleaned and painted the metal black. Oil based stain and polyurethane was the final touches. Now the weekend to dry then I'll reassemble. Cure time is about a month but for a chair you just need 24 hours (depending on weather and humidity. Month is for floors or places you will put heavy objects on. Anyone could do this and have a much better outcome but I love it because I did it. All my projects are for me or my wife. It will take me about three times the time to get the job done but that's cool with me. I know I did it. I did it and that's so cool to me. I already have another project I'll start after the 1st that will take more time and care and I can't wait to get at it. I won't bother the site with it so no post on that one. Anyway, I just finished and have them to hanging to dry a bit before I bring them inside.
