here is the link to an article I wrote a few years ago on how to make your own wax/fatwood fire starters.

I just broke one out the other night and it was the small one ( the ketchup cups from Burger king or the like ) I got it to burn for 19.30.09 in high wind while in my chiminea.

We have been making our own fire starters for several years. We use cheap cupcake cups or even circles of newspaper with the sawdust. Instead of buying wax, we melt down the remains of old candles in a tin can and use that for the wax. We don't use a wick since we use them to start the wood burning stove. You just light the paper and it will ignite the rest.
