The Suhl 150 was developed in the mid 1970s in the old East Germany to compete against the Anschutz and Walther rifles of West Germany. Originally designed as a prone and/or 3 position target rifle, they were highly touted for their extremely fast lock times, excellent barrels, and fabulous triggers. When the Berlin Wall fell, they began to be imported into the U.S., where many of them were converted for benchrest competition. The barrels on these rifles rival the world's best, and the triggers are second to none, being quickly and easily adjusted to a safe, two ounce let-off. Jim Williams, of Williams Precision, imported some 700 of these rifles in the early 1990's. He and his cohorts tested every one for accuracy, with target ammo, and then graded them accordingly, with Grade Ten being the highest rated (Grade Ten guns had to put 4 out of 5, five round groups from 50 yards into two-tenths of an inch). The Grade 10 guns were removed from their original wood position stocks and were then glass and pillar-bedded into McMillian fiberglass benchrest stocks by William's head gunsmith at the time, Tim McWhorter. They were drilled and tapped for Anschutz style scope mounts, and were fitted with barrel tuners (this one came with an early Bill Calfee tuner). This is one of those Grade 10 guns. The trigger is amazing, even when compared to some of my Anschutz triggers. The bedding work is top notch as well. I'm looking forward to some cooler weather to get out and shoot her.
