Spent the day on the San Juan river yesterday in the trophy area. Catch and release with barbless hooks. Never got a single bite all morning so after lunch went back and started flipping rocks to see what terrestrials were in the area and went back to fishing. Caught a few small ones but about 3 pm the sun peeked through the clouds. The bite was on! Within 45 minutes picked up three rainbows, one of which tied my personal best of 24” length and two more that were 25 and 26” long. Funny story behind the scenes. In the first pic you can see the line is hanging limp from the reel while holding it in my teeth. In the second pic, the line is tight because another trout hit the fly dangling in the water just about jerking the rod from my mouth. Learned my lesson on the third pic! Turned out to be a great day on the water.
