All the above just make me glad that mine have been out of school for a number of years. I will relate the following from about 15 years ago at a metro OKC junior high. 8th grade son had been coming home with some pretty good bruises on his arms and back from school bully punching him at various location around the school. Son had informed teachers but nothing really was done. The night of parent teacher conferences, I spotted the school principal and he and I went in to his office for a chat. I asked him about the situation and he told me there were addressing it. I informed him that my son would NOT start a fight but the next time this happened he would respond. Principal told me that he and the other kid would be suspended for fighting per school policy. I politely told him that he would be in court if he tried to suspend my son for defending himself as school administators knew of the situation and had done nothing to stop it. Conversation did not end pleasantly between the principal and me.. Old Navy vet across the street had been teaching my son some boxing lessons from his time in the service with the Golden gloves program of years past. In summary, bully pounded on son the next week in hallway at school. Son warned him to stop. Bully did not. Son put entire weight into punch that broke the kid's glasses and blood flew everywhere from his nose as he went to his knees. No mention of suspension for my son, but bully was ultimately kicked out of school permanently for other incidents related to bullying.... Very hard for this type of behavior to corral as I firmly believe that ALL kids at times can be cruel to others. Don't really know the answer to it but the political correctness in all this stuff has to be tempered with some common sense.
