I picked up a Puma/Rossi 1892 chambered in .44 magnum. Set out trying to find an owner's manual and found one here (its the fourth one down under the puma section). In it, it says that due to the tubular magazine that I should never use FMJ ammo as it could potentially set off the rounds in the magazine. I just picked up some jacketed soft poitn .44 magnum shells, and was thinking about getting some FMJ (for practice) and JHP shells but seeing that warning makes me wonder. Are they confusing FMJ rounds with spitzer shaped bullets? because that would make sense to me. I have no idea why a flat nose FMJ round would be dangerous in a rifle with a tubular magazine.
