I called mine Buddy quite frequently. His passing was easy and quick. Doc started out trying to talk us out of it, but as we talked him through what we were seeing, he checked various things, and agreed we were right. Orca had spinal spondylosis, narrowing of nerve passages in the lower spine, by the hips. Which is treatable, but also in the upper spine and that doesn't respond to treatments nearly as well. He said most folks wind up having them put down because they frequently wind up in terrible pain. Which is exactly what we wanted to avoid. Had a kitty do that on us. Kidney failure and excruciating pain. Took hours to get him to someone who could end his pain. Never Again. Came home with take-out because none of us could stand to cook afterwards, and I though I I heard him barking in the house as I drove up. Heart sunk. But we have survived. And my wife wants another dog. Doesn't feel safe without one. Smaller dog, like her Tupey dog. She was either a Belgian Griffin, or a mutt. Looked like she'd run into a parked car. Wiry black hair in a softer brown coat, with soft fluffy white hair in a ridge on her head.
