First time posting in this forum. Im not much of a prepper but I do tend to stock up on things that might help me down the road if SHTF. I don't have any gas masks and I saw this sale at BUDK: 2 CM3 masks for $13 shipped. http://www.budk.com/Military-Surplus-Czech-Gas-Mask-CM3-2-for-1-32905

Any opinions on them? What should one look for in a gas mask?

thanks

This article echoes a lot of my thoughts and experience with gas masks:

To me, buying a surplus, expired shelf life mask/filter with little to no training or comprehension of the complexities of CBRN warfare is kinda like having a rabbit's foot on your key chain...not good for much but it makes you feel good.

I'd spend the money on food.

Given that I have a pretty full beard, gas masks aren't really an option. An escape hood might be, although most of them, especially the ones that use NATO cartridges, have a respirator piece that goes over the mouth and nose, and I'm not sure how those would work with a beard.

Seems I ordered mine from an Israeli gear site. It was new and in excellent shape and passed the few tests I read about doing without actually being gassed. About $30 I think. Makes a great gift, worth it just seeing their expressions.
