Northeast Zone Private lands only.
One elk limit, any elk regardless of sex, age, or antler points.
Archery (either sex): Oct. 1, 2013-Jan. 15, 2014
Youth Gun (either sex): Oct. 18-20, 2013
(Same age requirements as youth deer gun season, see Deer.)
Muzzleloader (either sex): Oct. 26-Nov. 3, 2013
Gun (either sex): Nov. 23-Dec. 8, 2013
Public Lands
Elk hunting is closed on all Department-owned or managed lands, except for controlled elk hunt permittees on areas and dates designated on their controlled hunt permit.
You have to have WRITTEN permission (from landowner) to hunt elk.
There are lots of elk in the state that are in closed areas, it is unlawful to hunt/shoot/kill an elk in a closed county.
As for an elk that has escaped from confinement/commercial hunt area/private herd, those animals are considered livestock/private property, it would be no different than shooting someones cattle that escaped their property.
Hope this helps
