I might be a metal musician and metal listening fan but I like George when it comes to listening to country. Smooth performer, maybe a little too polished for some nowadays, but it was him getting big and his move to playing arenas that required him to change to perfectly choreographed shows and a big sound, same as Garth Brooks. I talked about it with Garth one day at Guitar Center in Tulsa and how he longed for the old days of smaller more intimate shows. Its just a transition that is inevitable when you get really big. You get a bigger band, better gear, you get writers writing your songs now because the label wants hits and not misses and doesnt trust the artist and since its their money you do what youre told to do. One of my dads ex employees,an Okie too,Ty England, never has got that big thankfully and he still sounds like himself. Hells ya. One of my bands played a show in Lawrence,Ks way back in the day and he was in town for a show so he was in the venue that night with friends getting drunk and came and talked to us after our set. He loved metal music. He invited us all out to the parking lot on to his tour bus and we drank with him and his crew all night. The last time I had talked to him was in Pawhuska,Ok at the big bike rally where he was the headliner and he remembered me some how. Funny, Ive got the record he did with Dimebag and Vinnie Paul,'Rebel Meets Rebel', in rotation in my Blazers CD changer now. "Cowboys Do More Dope" is hilarious. I remember his Xrated stuff ("suck em silly Shirley...",etc).
