I had a cheapo $45 NCStar 2MOA red-dot/laser lying around when I got my AR, so I thought what the heck, I'll give it a try. I couldn't have been more pleased with the results. I sighted it in at 25 yards, and had no problem hitting what I was aiming at out to 300 yards. Even hitting a 18" steel target at 400 yards was easy with the proper holdover. I put near 500 rounds through the rifle with the red-dot mounted, and it never failed. I would never use this setup in a battlefield or SHTF situation, but it worked very well for target shooting at the range. My point is that you don't have to have a high dollar red-dot or scope to enjoy shooting your AR.
