As the gun control debate continues, and especially as gun control advocates see some of their assumptions about "slam dunk" national restrictions being passed slipping away, a new front is opening up - basically saying that 2A advocates' argument that armed citizens might have prevented dictatorships are uncertain and should be ignored. http://news.yahoo.com/hitler-joins-gun-debate-history-dispute-134324118.html  Of course, this debate ignores our own national history. It is an interesting discussion and is instructive for 2A advocates in that we have to certain no to make logically unsupportable claims from history ourselves - remember we can't "prove" history that didn't happen so don't claim something "would have been different" - such as" if so-and-so population had had guns then dictator X would never have arisen" but we can claim and demonstrate that dictators themselves seem very convinced of the need to disarm their populace and that logic suggests why this would be. It is also worth constantly reminding people that armed sheep are still sheep i.e. weapons for defending freedom or self only work if the person holding them is able and willing to take the steps required, If we raise our children to think they are dependent then they likely will be even if possessing the legal right to be an armed self-governing free citizenry  BTW - the next front will be how guns promote suicide (i.e. its all about protecting the teens and adults) - when I find the links I will post them too.
