Message: <blockquote data-quote="mightymouse" data-source="post: 1948553" data-attributes="member: 15253"><p>As to someone charging you 4% to use a credit card, this is probably because all credit card processors charge vendors a percentage to process said card.  If, because of the mechanism of competition, a seller is pricing his guns at, say, 10% over cost, the fee charged by his credit card processor eats up about 20% of that 10% profit margin.  Credit card companies and the associated credit card processing companies (same thing, spelled differently) are making a fortune out of such fees, while struggling small business owners find they must pass such fees along to their customers (which doesn't usually make the customer very happy) just to survive.  It is not likely the vendor was trying to gouge anyone; it is simply that he is passing along to the customer the onerous fees charged by the credit card combine.</p></blockquote><p></p>
