The bill, by Rep. Mark McCullough (R, Tulsa), would allow local school boards to develop policies for teachers and administrators to attend a 240 hour CLEET (Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training) certification, approved by a sponsoring law enforcement agency. Once approved and certified, those personnel would be designated reserve officers of the sponsoring agency and allowed to carry concealed firearms at school locations. There was extensive questioning of the legislation, especially concerning liability of teachers and the management of training costs. The bill will now be eligible for discussion before the full House of Representatives. For more information on the legislation, committee discussion or votes, please call or email Chancen Flick in the LPO center at 800.522.8091, 405.528.7785 or cflick@okea.org.
