Hey guys, anyone that is a GM or mechanic with blower experience want to do some side work?

My daughter has a 99 GTP, 3.8 supercharged, that has had a rattle. Tried several mechanics to find out how to change the oil, they all said it doesn't need it, which I knew it did.:screwy:

Long story short, I think the coupler has finally gone in it, and it needs a new coupler and possibly the snout rebuilt. I need someone to confirm it, and be willing to do the work. I am traveling too much to mess with it.

PM me, and let me know if you can look at it, and when.

If you do some googling, should be able to find out how to. If no luck, check the lightning/cobra forums, should be an eaton, similiar to what they run. I know the thought of doing it is scary, but from what I have seen, it should be easy enough.

It looks to be an Eaton, doesn't look too bad, just the time thing. I think I could rebuild the snout if I had access to a hydraulic press for the bearings. Rebuild kits are about $30, and rebuilt units are around $200?

Looks like I could order the snout, pull one and install the other? as well as replace the coupler at the same time? Anyone know how to grease the coupler gears?

Gillman, you should check http://car-part.com . It's a national chain of salvages and I've used it more than once with excellent results. I purchased a set of seats for my '01 Ford Lightning, a motor for an '01 Saturn, and a transmission for my '03 Mustang GT.

If memory serves me right those are suppossed to be sealed units not needing fluid changes until over 100,000 miles which is prob the reason the rech said it didnt need to be done. He was assuming it was under that.

Thanks!! I should have just PMd you first, wasn't thinking......

That is where I am finding most of the info after googling. Question for you, it is still showing boost, so I am assuming the blower is still working, wouldn't you think? I know the coupler and snout are toast, but think the blower part is still working correctly.

It could be pulling boost, but I would expect boost #'s to be a lot lower, ie snout pully isnt spinning as fast, or spinning enough that the rotors still are
