The reason you shouldn't use deet is because it is known to cause irritated and inflamed skin on occasion. As well as many other potentially uncomfortable side effects.

If you want to avoid this I'd recommend using natural repellents whenever you're out. Personally, I love to use lavender oil. Keeps the bugs away and keeps me smelling good.

For those that are interested I found a couple other natural repellents on this page, it even talks about lavender oil too!

If you use Permethrin, be aware that it is highly toxic to cats. Even if a cat should lay on Pemethrin treated clothing, it could prove fatal.
Very true. I would never put my pet in such danger, that's exactly why I use natural substances as repellent.
