I was getting close until my ex wife decided to put a halt to our wealth building lol.
Started over and am half way there maybe, give or take.
Certainly not bragging but I always thought that would be a good dollar figure to set as a goal before retirement.
Retirement isnt an age number to me, its a dollar figure to sustain my way of life.
Having a mil. in the stock market earning an average of 12% would yield a nice growth annually to pay out on top of my pension.

I know several, but they count their capital as land value, homes, investments etc; it's not cash. If the economy tanks, they're ruined. So they aren't true millionaires in that sense. My litmus test of a true millionaire is if the person has a bonifide million dollars.

The S&P has averaged 12% since inception.
Kind of, since it went to the s&p 500 in the 50s average return is 8%.
