Hudson sandbass 6-28

I did some early fishing last Saturday on Hudson. Water was nice and cool around 77. Sandbass were going nuts on the shad behind bridge pillars. Some of the biggest sandbass I've ever caught. Threw a few of the real small ones back and I lost four right at the boat. Left before noon due to the heat but I bet we could have doubled our fish if we stayed all day. OBTW they were very tasty and don't believe the nonsense about the red stripe on a sandbass fillet.

Very nice! I like to use light tackle on the sandies if there isn't likely to be big hybrid schooling with them. It is a lot of fun.

I always cut the red stripe out. good lookin stringer

The blood stripe woudln't be much of an issue on fish that size. Those are about perfect for eating.

You're right Larry, they were very tasty. Had a sandbass sandwich for lunch today. Lot's more in my freezer next to many bags of crappie.

I may try to get some more fishing in on the 5th. But that all depends on how I'm feeling after eating and drinking all night on the 4th! The brisket, ribs, chicken, sausage, etc may do me in.
