The best handgun training program that I ever experienced was a 1980s CLEET Semi-automatic Certification Coarse: Day and Night Fire With Flashlight and Without Flashlight Illumination Using Muzzle Flash To Visualize Target; Weak and Strong Hand; Fast Draw/Fire/ on Threat with Hostage Close Range (1) Second Dynamic Target, Holster, Secure, Repeat; Dozier Drill;Timed Draw, Fire at Metal Drop Threat Targets without Hitting Bystander Targets, Run and Repeat from Various Positions (Prone, Kneeling, Cover etc.; Climb to Tower and engage Last Target at 100 Yards. Over 700 rounds fired during program with benefit of police coaches riding your azz looking diligently for range and safety violations…. LMAO! I used a .45 cal. Colt 1911 Series 70 Combat Commander for the coarse and placed in the top 10% of a large class most in which most were shooting 9mm rounds. I owe a debt of gratitude to OHP Trooper Cecil Craig for his off range coaching before the program. I’m thinking back and noticing how quickly time is passing by…..
