One of my mentors was un-installing a couple OHD's from an old speedo shop we ended up with. Typically we would would take two 18" to 24" sections of ground rod (being an EC they are always fairly handy) and unwind the springs hand over hand. He thought it would be a lot quicker to jam one jaw of a pair of Channelocks into one of the sockets, loosen the set screws carefully and pop the spool free by smacking the tool loose. Worked on every door but the last one. POW! That tool almost took his index finger clean off. That third bone from the tip busted clean in two and turned inside the flesh 90 degrees. This is the toughest man I know. When he said take me to the ER I knew it serious.
