If you live in the OKC area, you might try going to a Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS) Match at the OKC Gun Club. Start up a chat or two with the cowboys - they fall all over you having you shoot their guns and such. Probably hook up with someone who is willing to show you a thing or two. Stillwater Rifle and Pistol Club also have CAS matches as does Lawton Short Grass Rangers and the Indian erritory Single Action Shooting Society - Tulsa. They are all on line. They post their match schedule and are open to the public. I shoot Ruger "old" Vaqueros and Piette replica remmingtons New model Army with conversion culinders in CAS. The grip and feel of modern DA and semis are way different than SAA or replica. So - where 'bouts do ya live? I shoot and handload .45 Colt (aka Long Colt) with full house BP loads and the more tame smokeless loads with cast boolits. PM me if can be of further assistance.
