I don't agree society is getting worse, it has just gained more exposure. Time is relative, go back 150 years and ask a black man in texas about how good society was in his time. Or even before that ask the slaves of Egypt how good they had it building the pyramids. Or the Japanese Americans in the 40's for that matter. Society has gotten much more civil, it just seems worse because Americans have this idea in their head of the "good 'ol days" where life was like Leave it to Beaver. But that never existed first of all, and second of all that may seem like a long time to Americans but that's because America is a young country, families in Europe have had grudges longer than we've been a country. It seems worse because every event that happens big or small gets exposure and it goes back to the saying the nail that sticks out gets hammered. It takes one moron to make things look bad while the other 7 billion people on earth aren't bad at all. "The way things used to be" was a short period of time +\- ten years and even that was more made up propaganda than truth, yet everyone refers to it as if it was the beginning of time and compares things to it. It's like saying there was no reports of Rape in the 1720's so the 1720's were a great time lets go back to it. It still happened, more often than today, it just wasn't as openly reported as it is today. The American fundamentalist is also the downfall to our country, the one who thinks our way is the universal way and everyone else is wrong, AKA xenophobia and ethnocentrism. As far as that picture goes, an advertisement is totally different than a movie. It's like saying well bleach and coke are both liquids, so if you drink bleach and die, the same will happen with coke. When no, the only thing they have in common is they are both liquids. Well the only thing a commercial and a movie have in common is they are both on film. I may see a commerical for a Ferrari, does that mean I can go buy one? No. I may see a movie where murder happens, does that mean I can go kill someone? No. Just my $.02 I'm curious as to your thoughts. And just fyi this wasn't a tangent against you personally, just my opinion on the subject.
