Excellent snake to have around, as stated by Aries & TwoForFlinching,, a Rat Snake. They are fast & tend to be aggressive when provoked, Their bite will bleed, but is shallow , not deep, and MOST importantly is NOT poisonous . Keep mice & rodents at bay. Years ago we had caught several copperheads on our property. The solution was to catch + release these guys....... problem solved. As far as having these snakes around your chickens, not good, as stated by 16colt. They will raid your henhouse and coup. They love fresh warm eggs, and will even be bold enough to strangle an adult hen ! I lost a hen that way, and the dumb snake had swallowed her head and neck, couldn’t go any further due to the immense size discrepancy. Duh We had to seal up our hens nightly......snakes,possum and raccoon protection. We had one of these guys climb up on our front porch light like yours did. Good stuff
