The transponder is only there as your last lifeline. It only broadcasts when you activate it so that doesn't interfere with your quest either. Telling the park ranger is just another safety measure that you can take for in the event of the worse case happening. Plus it's common courtesy to the rangers who will be searching for you.</p></blockquote><p></p>
