NICs checks DO NOT ALLOW the FBI to keep the data in a database. They are expressly forbidden from doing so. http://www.acslpa.org/html/nics_fbi_letter.html Right now, a person goes into an FFL, gets the NICs check and gets an OK or a DENY. If they get a DENY, the FBI is currently, under Holder, maintaining that information indefinitely. The legality of this is dubious but I am not aware of anyone crying foul over it yet. If they get an OK, the FBI is not able to maintain that information in a database, but has to destroy that data within 24 hours. I am sure Mr. Holder and POTUs would LOVE to keep that info ( a defacto registration) but they are EXPRESSLY forbidden from doing so and can likely go to jail if they do. The one thing the anti-2As would LOVE is a gun registry of who owns what. For that, they MUST get a Universal Background Check passed. see the link below to understand how this can happen: https://www.okshooters.com/showthread.php?161424-Why-closing-the-quot-Gun-Show-Loop-Hole-quot-leads-to-registration-of-all-weapons&highlight=show+loophole Everything else,...the assault weapon ban, the magazine cap limit, etc is all SMOKE and MIrrors in my opinion. It's like a conjuring trick...they want you to focus on those while they try to sneak in a Universal Background Check. We must stop it. I am talking ONLY about the UBC when i talk to my senators and congressman's offices every week. :)
