Yrs ago during the cold war, one of my uncles was a radio operator aboard one of the nuclear subs that would go up under the Artic Ice cap and lay there for 4-6 months at a time..... ready to break through the ice and fire their missiles at the Soviet Union. It takes a special kind of sailor to be able to lay at the bottom of the sea in a tin can for months at a time. It is hard enough for the guys in the large modern subs with the space they have. I can't begin to imagine what it was like for those sailors back during WWII. Subs & bombers weren't built for big guys like me. I would have a hard time just getting through a hatch.
