My 2 "retro's" would both work out fine -- first one is an M-16 604 upper and furniture on a 25 year old Olympic full fence lower - have the old school 4x scope on there for plinking but the wide open ghost ring rear sight is visible through the scope mount quite easily The 9mm is a vintage Colt upper on a Bushmaster lower --- its proven itself reliable enough over a couple thousand rounds through it so far, that im not worried about it -- both could use slings but thats about it --- if things go bump in the night, my EDC Surefire is on the nightstand next to the noise cancelling muffs - its not totally necessary to mount it to the weapon but YMMV (my opinion is along the lines of the Hackathorn argument - but weapons setup is like politics to me - i'll not criticize a guy for his setup if he has thought about it and feels he has the best for his or her needs My "truck gun" is a Colt 6920, but even it is pretty retro in comparison to the way a lot of folks prefer thgeir stuff setup --- Despite the truck gun moniker, it comes in with me at night if the truck is not garaged for some reason --- I was leaning towards an Aimpoint Pro, but the LWRC iron sight works so well, i almost dont want to mess with success - and a bulletproof system -- no sling and it will never wear one - there are too many things for a sling to snag on in a "truck gun" role --- but will be adding a binary trigger when i get around to it The stock 6920 is kind of chunky, but the 604 and the 6540 format retros feel so slim and light, they are a joy to carry
