Interesting thought, Lurker, but consider these questions: When was the last Democrat president elected that was the "heir-apparent" of the party, or has the majority of them been "new-and-upcoming stars" of the party? There are those that said that 2008 was Hilary's to lose, and she lost it to fresh-new Obama. Now, she has her own record of public service, none of which stands out as stellar and actually is tarnished by her tenure as Secretary of State. Do you really think that history will change and she will be elected? Going back to a comment in the story, from what I understand of things, a president usually doesn't see the full effect of his policies until years down the road, unless that president happens to initiate tax cuts/reform. With that in mind, Bill Clinton's economy really wasn't his. The economy he benefited from came about because of the policies of Reagan and Bush 41. Clinton gets credit because of him not really "getting in the way" of the economy and with the Republican take-over of Congress only 2 years into his presidency. In fact, he wouldn't have been elected a second time if he hadn't caved in and signed the welfare reform bill into law.
