I have a bone-stock '99 Wrangler SE, 4 cyl., 5 spd manual trans. I bought it a few years ago to replace a motorcyle when my back got bad. It serves it's intended purpose. Top down in the summer, cruising the local lakes, etc. I live in a small town so around town driving is a slow speeds. I seldom drive it out on the highway. As others have said, on the highway it sucks pretty bad. 60 mph against a good wind is about it. I average about 15 mpg in town and 18 on the highway. Last winter, we had about a foot of snow accumulated on the side roads and it had a hard time with that. Actually ground to a halt on a major city road by running into a drift that I thought I could get through. My Jeep has almost 150,000 miles on it without any major work. I'll get rid of it soon, and there's no doubt that my next one will be a 6 cylinder. I'll probably stick with the manual trans just because I like the control you have.
