Not only will elm tear up a splitter, it also has the lowest BTU's per ton than any other wood.
Way behind on reading, but I bought one of these and used it all last winter on seasoned oak. It makes a big pile of kindling no time flat even though its kiwi price is outrageous. Best way to use it would be to mount it to something larger like a stump, although I haven't done that.
I bought it on a hunch that I could use it to trick the grandkids into doing kindling without thinking it was a big chore, and also to not worry about whether or not they were going to chop off fingers or toes.
