Loving the thread title. Now to get down to business... We have the DC17 (http://www.dyson.com/store/product.asp?product=DC17-ALLFLOORS) we bought a few months ago to replace some Hoover bagless vac that started to really suck by not sucking. It was less than $500. I wish our Hoover was in semi-decent functioning order so we could vacuum with it then vacuum with the Dyson for comparison, but we didn't so I can't really say it cleans any better than any other vacuum I've used. It sounds like a normal vacuum (slightly quieter, maybe), it pushes like a normal vacuum, but is supposed to never lose suction, is Asthma and Allergy approved (I'm severe asthmatic), and Dyson has great reputation for customer service. When we opened the box, the wand extension tube thing was bent. I tried straightening it out, but it has a groove or two down the shaft to keep it from twisting in the vacuum that had a bend crease on it. I could finally get it to fit, but it wouldn't extend back out. So I called customer service and within a matter of a few minutes, they had setup an order to ship out a complete wand setup which arrived a couple of days later. It's worked great since. Pulling the wand out is a bit of a chore, which seems to be notorious for most Dysons. It's not complicated, but the spring inside the hose is so tight that it doesn't want to extend very far before it's dragging the entire vacuum cleaner along for the ride. This is really the only thing I don't like about it, but I'm sure after a while of using it it should loosen up a bit. We chose this over any of the ball models because of the larger capacity canister.
