[QUOTE="ok-22shooter, post: 4331013, member: 42477"] Meet up with swapratt on Thursday and gave him 15# of "lead". Saturday morning, I had brought back one of my turkey fryer burners and a ingot mold and a few ladles from my buddies shop. bought a 8" diameter cast iron pot this week at a junk store. set up and started melting my free lead. at around 450 deg F the bottom started turning to liquid and the mass was settling lower. at around 625 F, I had oatmeal or something like it. a little warmer and added in a nickel size chunk of beeswax. stir, stir, stir. started getting liquid at the bottom, more wax, flame, and the grey fines started floating out of the oatmeal. 2" of lead in the bottom and 3/4" of fines on top. scrapped off fines, refluxed and poured 6 ingots that looked great. repeat, repeat, repeat. ended up with 16# of lead ingots and 8# of fines in the scrap pan. when I dumped the fines into a disposal box, there might have been 1# of lead that had run to the bottom of the pan. ingots ring hard and are in the range of H or 2H hardness. for sure not as easy as Linotype strips to add to a pot but I am building at least one 300# lead pot and expect to recover maybe 1,500# of hard lead form my new found lead source.
